HISTORY: HOW SANTUGON CAME TO BE! In April of 1986, a group of La Sallian youth leaders coming from the 1st La Sallian Youth Congress, decided to formalize their vision of creating La Sallians, as Catalysts for Social Transformation. These La Sallians, in the personages of Mr. Ringo Morella (BR-Fast 83) and Mr. Sonny Osi (BR-38th Engbatch), decided to organize a political organization that would contribute to this end goal. These youth leaders, who were currently in the Student Council, under the potical party of Lakas Lasalista (SY 85-86), the ruling political party of then SC President Pepot Miņana, decided to invite other youth leaders who share the same vision. Then Campus Peer Ministers, Ringo Morella, Joy Nicdao & Ira Nunez Reyes, Honor's Society Member, Mike Ang, and VP-Operations Staff, Benson Hari-Ong decided to form the political party of "Santugon sa Tawag ng Panahon". It is during the conceptualization phase that, then Youth Representative/Delegate to the Philippine Constitutional Convention, Mr. Chito Gascon of the University of the Philippines, briefed these youths of the vision of 'Tugon', the ruling student political party of UP Diliman of which he belongs. This is where the co-relationship of these two student political parties began. There was a need for continuity of student ideals and political identity during those post Martial Law years in the student governments. The student political parties, particularly in DLSU, have always kept their one year existence in the emergence of every student council election. Lakas Lasalista (SC-Majority Party) & Panudla (SC Minority Party - from which Tapat branched out in 1986 also) do not forsee their continued existence for SY'86-'87. It is during this year that BOTH parties began to exist. They both ran at the same time, therefore, disclaiming the misinformation, that one party is older than the other. FOUNDING CANDIDATES of both political parties for SY 1986-1987
